Topic:

1.       (5 min.) Welcome/ Intro.

2.       (15 min.) Upcoming events:

·            Theatre for Change – Feb. 26th @7pm

PR--On Isledegrande, School and Town web sites.

·            Teen Challenge – March 27th @7pm

PR--Promote w/ Feb. date flyers!

Other PR ideas: Ministerium; through Linda Tufillaro. w/ sports leagues.

Open to all.

Parent forum follow-up for either event? Yes. March 3 at Library? GIFTS should be represented, someone from Teen Challenge, maybe drug court judge to explain the system, BILY (Because I Love You) (behavior management-related support group)…

GIFTS reps should put together resource handout for attendees. Should be sent out to agencies, Dan S., and Denise Oursler. Denise and Jill will collaborate and contact the agencies—obtain pamphlets, etc. Denise will report an update back to Dan in approximately a week. Agency tables in the Viking Mall? Flyer will be more anonymous.

Joann Hudecki will give a short presentation at Feb. 26 meeting.

3.       (10 min.) Drug Court – Follow up? Power Point presentation that could be put online. Consider. Promote on Isledegrande.com via a catch article? Have GI Court make up an info brochure for the TFC presentation.

4.       (10 min.) Project Sticker Shock – Sally Yageric – Canceled meeting in Dec. due to wind storm. Will be rescheduled. The project includes the placement of stickers on alcoholic beverages that warn against adults serving minors.

5.       (15 min.) Youth Board – Discussion – Merge with One Island or no? Keep the Youth Board and have them send a liaison to the One Island meetings?

6.       (15 min.) Other items on the table:

·           Video production - How will it be used? – Not discussed

·            Survey – Not discussed

·            Safe Homes – Do we have a representative from each school? Sally hasn’t heard from any reps. GI contact needs to follow up with her. Next meeting: March 13 at 10 a.m. at the Harlem Rd. Community Center. Dan S. will follow up with Bruce Benson about a rep from the Middle School.

·           TIP/Help phone line – Trooper Pyc and Peter Sukmanowski -- Who will take responsibility for collecting messages? Issues w/ potential for false reports. Trooper Pyc is hesitant to have this linked directly to the school (have done that before, not effective). Peter S.: Should be community-wide. Guidelines/logistics would need to be solidly in place before implementing. Peter S. should prepare a presentation at next meeting, addressing issues raised and fleshing out the hows, whos, and whats.

7.       (10 min.) New Business: Grant program: $15,000 award – based on collaboration between school and police (topics: school safety/ anti-drug, etc.). Apply (through Town)? Have J. O’Connell (Town’s grant writer) look at. Town Board will consider at their next workshop (2/25). If approved, grant writer should sit down with a One Island rep and discuss projected programming expenses.

8.       (10 min.) Next Steps:  Some youth representative should be involved with One Island, and link this group to the classroom world. Even involving the at-risk and offender students should be considered.

Next meeting: March 11 at 4 p.m.
